Okay, okay, okay

I got it - update the blog. But can we all just focus for a second on what a great job I have done in keeping up with this. Who really thought I would update as much as I have (not me). Anyway, quick update of the past few weeks. I went on a cruise with my sister Jenny (yeah!) and no kids (yeah! yeah!). It was totally fun. I loved every minute. We had a blast with the kids on Halloween, although Sophia got really upset when I started giving away the candy she had collected during Trunk or Treat. But seriously, did she really think I would let her eat all of it? And we had already gone through 2 1/2 of the big Sam's Club candy bags and there were still kids coming. But don't worry - I didn't give any of the chocolate away. I think that I probably can actually live in Farmington now. Costa Vida (Cafe Rio) is now open in Farmington, NM. Yeah! Although I feel like we have eaten there so often in the last few weeks that we have to take a break. Cody is not allowed to talk to people, especially at church. He gets us roped into all sorts of things. Tonight was some youth talent show and they asked if we would come and do some sort of "commercial" during the show. You know, like the ones the church does. Sure. Oh, by the way, I found out at about 9pm last night. So anyway, Sophia and I have been practicing "I hope they call me on a mission" because Cody's brother just got his call last week (Fresno, CA, spanish speaking). Anyway, we dressed the kids up and had them sing and little trooper that she is, Sophia sang her heart out. It is a true testament to the power of bribery. Although when we asked what kindof treat she wanted, Sophia said, "Bacon".

Happy Birthday Sophia!

Sophia turned 3 yesterday. So exciting. And yes, I did make the Barbie cake. Sophia saw one and said (imagine the most dramatic tone of voice), "Mom. Loook at that cake. It is so beautifuuul. Can I have it". So I had to. Let's just say, never really made a cake like this. So I baked the cakes, Cody constructed the cake and then I decorated it. All the kids loved it and I'm glad I did it, but next year we are totally doing the Costco cake. Anyway, we did a thing with Sophia this year. We told her that for every present she opened, she had to go find a toy to give to someone who doesn't get them. So, Cody let her open a present the night before her birthday. After she opened it, we reminded her that she needed to go find a toy for someone else. She ran to her room and was gone for several minutes. She came out and presented me with the toy she was willing to share. When Sophia was younger we gave her a play wallet. The toy that she presented to me to share with someone else was a fake credit card from the toy wallet. Thursday I decided that I was not going to end up with a handful of fake cards and I put a pile of toys on the bed and told her to pick from that pile. She ended up picking all of Max's toys to give away.

We actually started

Finally! We started on the house. The backhoe came on Tuesday and now the pad for the foundation is level and ready to pour the foundation. I am so excited but really freaked out. Lots of decisions (not really my strong point) and I can't see any of it until it's done. So we'll see how everything goes. We went to Colorado two weeks ago for a baby blessing and were also able to see our friends, the Hasketts. So fun.

Camping (again!)

So we went camping (again!). At one point I had to take Sophia to the toilet. They only had port-a-potties. I opened the door and Sophia said, "Wow. Look at that." Then Cody tried to teach the kids how to skip rocks. They thought the game was to see which one could pick up the biggest rock and heave it into the water.

Camping

So I want to start this by saying that I am not a camper - never have been, never claimed to be. I like to shower regularly. So we just got back from a camping trip to Flaming Gorge with Cody's family. Just to give a glimpse of the trip, I'll start with the drive up. We went through Durango and up through the mountains in Colorado. I got kind of carsick. We had stopped at one gas station and Sophia had to go the bathroom as well so she came in with me. Every time I went to heave over the toilet, she would peak around and look down into the toilet and say, "What are you looking at?" It was a little distracting trying to aim around her. Anyway, about 10 minutes after my last stop, I had to actually go to the bathroom. I thought I would hold it until we came to the next town. It was a long wait around tiny, curving mountain roads, with no place to even pull over and go behind a tree. Finally we got to Ouray (stupidest town) which had 2 gas stations - one closed and the other no public bathrooms. By this point I was crying and told Cody to just find a big tree and pull over. He did. I ran behind it and turned around to find the best squatting hiding spot and a car pulled in right behind ours - and sat there. I couldn't do it. So I ran back to the car. Cody was laughing so hard he couldn't talk. Finally he said, "I'm sure they will leave. Let's just wait". Finally they did leave (what were they doing anyway?) and I ran back behind the tree and went as fast as I could. Worst bathroom experience EVER! Later that night we stayed at a KOA campground and were right next to the freeway. Good start. After we got to Flaming Gorge, Cody and his brother were setting up the tent and I looked and about 20 feet from our tent was a HUGE snake. I'm not sure what kind, but honestly does it matter? Cody went after it - not to kill it, just to scare it away. (Are you serious?) The next day we went out on the boat. Sophia and I were saying, "Too fast. Too fast". max was sitting there looking content as could be. We went out on the boat later to go to a new spot that had cliffs to jump from, fishing spots and boating areas. Everyone else drove the cars over. About 10 minutes after we left, it started raining. Then it started raining harder. Then the winds picked up. Then it started the freezing rain and some hail. At this point the rain was coming in sideways and the covers on the boat did nothing. The rain was so hard and so fast it felt like stinging needles hitting me. I couldn't feel me hands and arms because I was trying to cover the kids with a sopping wet towel. Why, do you ask, did we not turn back? "Because the storm is going to break at any moment". 2 1/2 hours later (that's right) we arrived at the spot. Horrible. Horrible. After we got the boat docked, everyone in one car (because all of the other cars had already gone back to the campground), and headed back, it quit raining and the sun came out. Later, at dinner, Cody's mom asked when we were headed back, I told her I wasn't sure but I did know we were staying in a hotel. The next day, and I have pistures to prove it, I jumped off a 15 foot cliff. I know. Very impressive. I won't do it again and I thought I was having a heart attack the whole time, but I'm glad to know I am not quite the wimp I thought I might be. On the way home we stayed in a motel (and got the last available room in a 2 hour distance). Unfortunately, they put us next to some people that were having issues. At about 11pm, someone knocked on our door. Then at about 3am, a man chased someone (his wife/girlfriend?) down the hall in front of our room. Alittle bit after that, we woke up to the police out in the hall talking to the chasee. We are glad to be home - unscathed, with all of our parts. But it was a good trip and fun to spend time with Cody's family. Although, we had about 1 hour left until we got home and Cody said, "I have Friday off this week. Let's find a place closer to us and go camping". If I could have found something to hit him with, I would have.

It's my pretty little guy

Poor Max. We need to get some trucks or something. He only has dress-ups to play with.

So we have our lot and now we have the plans finished. We are just waiting for the permits and appraisal and then we will get started building. Hopefully by the beginning of September. Very exciting.

Horrible Day

So we had a horrible day Tuesday. Horrible. It ended with us jumping in the car at about 7pm to find someone to fix Sophia's hair because she decided to cut it herself. Ironically, the guy who cut her hair did about as good a job as Sophia did.

Finally!!

I am somewhat retarded, but am slowly figuring this whole computer/blog thing out. Anyway, we have been in Farmington, NM for just over a month now. Cody is really liking the new office and things are going well. He's busy and likes that. Sophia is still my little goose - most days we are friends. Max is my little guy and a total monkey. He is starting to talk which is sweet. Farmington is nice - it has mall with 3 whole stores one being an ATV store (just a slight exagerration). But seriously - we have found the one good chinese restaurant within a 2 hour radius and have found the yucky other restaurants in Farmington. Our other exciting news is that we closed on a lot today and hopefully will start building within the next month or two.

No more excuses

My friend Katie has created this blog for me (and kindly written this first post) so that I can no longer claim computer illiteracy as an excuse for not keeping thoroughly in touch. I promise to post pictures and updates weekly!
